Carl Linnaeus - Fauna Svecica - 1761
This is the first full account of the animals in Sweden. The work describes the morphology of 2,328 Swedish animal species and their systematic categorisation. It catalogues the country’s fauna - mammals, birds, fish, insects, and other classes - using the binomial nomenclature that would become standard in zoology. This second edition is of particular value for the entomological nomenclature. The covers are worn, with some splitting between the back cover and spine, but still firmly held. Spotting to pages. Carl Linnaeus was the founder of modern taxonomy, establishing the binomial system that still underpins how all living organisms are named. He transformed natural history by creating a universal method for classifying plants, animals, and minerals into a coherent hierarchy. His works, such as Fauna Svecica, reshaped science and made him one of the most influential figures of the Enlightenment.
