This "Pain Sheet," created in 1989, a pivotal year marking the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall, does not depict a specific battle, but rather explores structural violence, the trauma of divided Germany, and the individual's struggle against systems of control. His style seeks a direct, almost "prehistoric," communication about human aggression.

Penck, born in East Germany (GDR), experienced censorship and ideological conflict firsthand, which made the theme of confrontation and resistance the central focus of his career.
