While the canonical Fang Ngil masks are famous for their heavily elongated, pure white heart-shaped faces, this specific archetype represents a far more unusual, robust regional variation that bridges ancestral veneration with protective warrior traits. Worn by high-ranking initiates during major social crises, judicial tribunals, or solemn funerary rites for elder lineage leaders, the mask was designed to manifest an imposing, otherworldly entity capable of exposing wrongdoers, neutralizing malevolent sorcery, and re-establishing customary law and social equilibrium. The physical architecture of this mask perfectly exemplifies the bold, geometric minimalism and mixed-media mastery unique to the Fang sculptural tradition.
