Kerámia - unknown - Afganisztán - Qajar dynasty (1796–1925)
This is a fine example of a tile from the Qajar dynasty in the Middle East. The Qajar dynasty was a Turkic ruling dynasty that reigned over Persia and parts of western Afghanistan from 1789-1925. Tiles like this were used for decorative purposes and many times affixed to the interior or exterior parts of the houses.
This particular tile was purchased years ago in Afghanistan. It depicts imagery likened to a member of the Qajar royal family or court.
Multi-colored with rich blues and greens.
The horned head of a bull or goat is depicted on the end of the staff and the crown worn by the individual. The heads of bulls and goats, particularly in the context of art and rituals, were powerful symbols that conveyed themes of fertility, power, and the divine in ancient Persia. These animals were revered and played a significant role in religious and cultural practices.
