Descrizione del venditore
A large Satsuma octagonal gosu kōro, modelled in the form of a lantern and resting on three feet, decorated in the round with eight side panels featuring refined floral and naturalistic motifs, including flying cranes, magpies among irises, and perched pheasants, rendered with great chromatic richness.
The upper section is adorned with an elaborate relief-enamel decoration in tones of green, black, blue, and orange, enriched with extensive use of gold.
The pierced cover is shaped in the form of a chrysanthemum.
The underside bears the Shimazu mon.
Satsuma ware is one of the finest expressions of Japanese ceramics. Originating from the ancient province of Satsuma (now Kagoshima), it was produced as early as the Edo period (1603–1868) using low-temperature firing, which gives it the characteristic surface with craquelure and vibrant decorations.
---The koro is in very good condition, with minor wear consistent with age. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
