Antique oil on canvas, good pictorial quality, large size 110 x 90 cm.
It depicts three characters: St. Francis and two angels.
The Saint, who occupies most of the space, is captured in a dramatic moment, that of ecstasy, that is, in the moment between earthly life and death, after which he will see God and Paradise.
The skull, and the rooster placed at the bottom near the saint, recalls death instead.
The scene takes place in an unrecognizable setting: in fact, only a blue sky is seen in the background, which perhaps alludes to Paradise.
In the composition prevails the contrast between the colours used for angels and dark colours of the habit of St. Francis.
