This is a collection of 12 issues of the “Gallerie Universelle” published by Imbert de La Platière (author of the text), each composed of a portrait accompanied by a biographical note. The issues were released monthly and sold separately by subscription.
Most of the portraits are signed in the plate, engraved by [Louis]Le Coeur (175.-18..)Sculpt.; Benoist Sculpt. after the drawings of Des Rais, Allais, Nanteuil, Holbins, after the "Bibliotheca Regia" copy
According to the covers of the issues kept at the BNF, the gallery was dedicated and presented to the king and was published between 1787 and 1789. Gallia lists only 11 issues including No. 73 dedicated to the King of Sweden, which seems to be the last.
