Exegesis on the Psalms, in Latin, by the Capuchin scholar Frans Titelmans (1502-1537), printed in Lyon in 1573, illustrated with the printer's emblem engraved on the title page and beautiful decorated initials.
Lugduni, Apud Guglielmum Rovillium, 1573, 18 x 11 cm, pages 2 + title page + 55 prologues and indexes + 878 + 2. Foxing, slight halos of water stains on some pages, some pages are a little browned.
Franciscus Titelmans was born in Hasselt and graduated M. A. at the University of Leuven in 1521. He was a dialectician under the influence of Rudolf Agricola, and itself affects Petrus Ramus. He joined the Franciscans in 1523, and is involved in the controversy with Erasmus over the interpretation of Pauls letters in the period from 1527 to 1530. He wrote a compendium of natural philosophy, which was much reprinted.
He became a Capuchin in 1535 and moved to Italy, where he worked in a hospital for the terminally ill. He died in Anticoli Di Campagna.
