Im Vorwort lobt von Gebsattel das Werk als "seltenes Erzeugnis wissenschaftlichen Geistes ... von repräsentativer exemplarischer Bedeutung"; es überrasche "durch die scheinbar mühelose Selbstverständlichkeit, mit der Türen aufgestoßen werden, hinter welchen das jeweilige Forschungsgebiet erhellende Sachverhalte sich verborgen hielten". - Anders als in den folgenden Auflagen taucht hier der Begriff "Endogenität" noch nicht im Untertitel auf, aber das Konstrukt wird schon in der EA entwickelt
