Louis Chadourne. Land of Canaan. Paris, Emile-Paul frères, 1925, 292 pages.
A quarto volume (250 x 190 mm), half morocco with corners, spine with a mosaic of raised bands, gilded head (binding from the period). The spine is slightly sun-damaged; otherwise a fine binding. Foxing is very sparse, but the overall is free of it. Covers and spine preserved.
Illustrated edition containing 20 wood engravings by Pierre Falké of Louis Chadourne's novel.
Terre de Chanaan explores the illusion of a promised land through the eyes of Westerners who went to seek an ideal far from Europe. Louis Chadourne reveals the colonial disillusionment and the inner unease of men confronted with the brutal reality of the dream they pursued.
