Legionary soldier clothing appliques from the Roman Empire Very rare collection pieces, preserving vitreous paste of original color. Datation: 1st-3rd centuries AD. This type of piece has a military character, and is normally identified as decorative for the external surface of the legionary cingulum militare (belt). The “milites” had a tendency to decorate and embellish the pieces of their equipment and clothing, making their military status clear. 1 and 2.- Two bronze appliques with vitreous paste They have a geometric decoration, with evident remains of vitreous paste with a polychrome of bright colors. The decoration was carried out with the so-called “Millefiori” technique, based on the superposition of layers of molten glass of different colors, previously treated in molds with different geometric patterns. It gave them a colourful image, very much in Roman taste. Pieces in good condition given their age. Measurements: Applique 1 Diameter: 30mm Applique 2 Diameter: 25mm.
