Luristan Brons Pijlpuntgroep (4) (Zonder Minimumprijs)
A selection of four Luristan cast bronze arrowheads. Three of them feature a triangular blade, whilst the other has a leaf-shaped blade. The triangular blades present a central raised mid-rib, pointed barbs, and a long narrow tang. The leaf-shaped blades also have a central raised mid-rib, but with rounded tangs which meet a shorter, wider tang. The pieces are covered in a beautiful blue-green patina and some earthly encrustations. There is some damage to the edges of the blades, but the barbs are mostly well-preserved and intact.
The arrowheads are set within a custom wooden mount.
Luristan bronzes come from the province of Lorestan, located in modern day Iran. Luristan weapons, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased.
Excavated items from this region often include weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Ornamental objects are also frequently found, such as pins and bracelets. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Luristan bronze objects often served ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements (arrowheads with mount) - L 8.7cm x W 13.0cm x D 4.5cm
