Oud-Chinees, Ming-dynastie Aardewerk Dierenriemfiguur - Hond (Zonder Minimumprijs)

Ming Dynasty Pottery Zodiac Figure - Dog Circa 14th-17th century AD This lovely pottery figure of a dog is elegantly portrayed in a seated position on its hind legs, resting atop an integral rectangular base. The animal, excluding the pads painted in black, is glazed with a yellow hue covering its body and green glaze enhancing its upraised tail and ears. The head faces forward, exhibiting outlined eyes and a slightly parted mouth. The Chinese zodiac, deeply ingrained in Chinese culture and astrology, is a twelve-year cyclical system where each year is associated with a specific animal. This ancient tradition, rooted in a combination of astronomical observations and Chinese mythology, plays a significant role in shaping beliefs and influencing various aspects of life. The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, often referred to as the "Shengxiao," are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
