Verlag für Fremdsprachige Literatur - Lernen von Dadschai (CHINESE PROPANDA FOR DDR/GDR, VERY FRESH COPY) - 1976

IMPRESSIVE CHINESE PROPAGANDA PHOTOBOOK - published in China for the East-German (GDR/DDR) market. Title in English: 'Learning from Dadschai. China's masses move mountains'. An economically backward village - Dadschai - became a role model in socialist China. It developed step by step, relying on its own strengths. Scarce book with many photos - published in different languages. Here the GDR/DDR version by 'Verlag für fremdsprachige Literatur'. Comparable with the book: 'Die rote Sonne erhellt den Weg' (Martin Parr, Wassink Lundren, The Chinese Photobook, From the 1900s to the Present, page 224 and 225) by the same publisher ('Verlag für fremdsprachige Literatur'), which i am also offering in this auction. 'The Publishing House for Foreign Language Literature in Beijing is part of China's Foreign Language Department. It is responsible for editing and publishing Chinese literature as well as textbooks and dictionaries. The predecessor of the publishing house was founded in November 1949, modelled on the Publishing House for Foreign Language Literature in Moscow. It was given its current name on 1 July 1952 and became the central organ for the publication of foreign-language books and magazines. In addition to political texts such as the works of Mao Zedong and other Chinese politicians, the publishing house also translated and published Chinese fiction and Marxist classics in several dozen languages, including German. It employed several native-speaking editors and translators, including the Austrian-born Ruth Weiß, Fritz Jensen and Ernst Schwarz, the Germans Käthe Zhao, Harry Thürk, Friedemann Berger and Ernst Zorer, the French Denise Ly-Lebreton, the English Gladys Yang (née Tayler) and the US-born Sidney Shapiro and Betty Chandler. The publishing house ‘New World’ is a subsidiary of the publishing house for foreign-language literature. In 1986, the publishing house ‘Sinolingua’ for Chinese textbooks and the publishing house ‘Dolphin Books’ for children's literature were founded as subsidiaries.' (Wikipedia) FRESH CONDITION. THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOBOOK AUCTION ON CATAWIKI - dedicated entirely to the world of the former "DDR"/"GDR" ("GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" or "EAST GERMANY") which existed from 1949 to 1990. Still largely undiscovered and unexplored, this field offers a wealth of fascinating discoveries for collectors. 5Uhr30.com presents exceptional works by renowned and emerging artists, survey works, compelling monographs, as well as extraordinarily rare small vintage catalogues, vintage children’s books and vintage factory photobooks; signed publications, posters, and much more. Verlag für Fremdsprachige Literatur, Peking. 1976. First German edition, first printing. Paperback with dustjacket. 250 x 250 mm. 140 pages. Text in German. Condition: Inside and outside very fresh and very clean with no marks and with no foxing; light trace of use only. Overall fine, much better than usual condition. Highly interesting Chinese/GDR (DDR) propaganda photobook - scarce, especially in this very fresh condition. Like always we guarantee detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance, and of course, combined shipping - worldwide. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISS THIS UNIQUE AUCTION. Brought to you exclusively by 5Uhr30.com, Cologne, Germany.
