Kopke - 80 Years Old Tawny - Douro - 1 Flaske (0,75 l)

Kopke 80 Years Old Tawny Port 1 x 0.75L 1 Bottle Port Wine WINEMAKER: Carlos Alves. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 100 Points, Revista de Vinhos WINE VARIETIES: Traditional Douro grapes varieties. VINIFICATION Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. At this point, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged tawny Port wines. These wines have each matured in oak casks for varied periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the characteristics given by the ageing in wood. TASTING NOTES A deep amber color with greenish hues reveals the wine`s long ageing in ancient wood. Initial aromas suggest slightly resinous exotic woods, ending in a botanical bouquet reminiscent of pennyroyal and other shade herbs. On the palate, it surprises with endless freshness, notes of tangerine peel, dried apricot and licorice unfold into a core of spiced and dried fruit nuances. A second wave brings a slight bitterness that lingers on the finish, highlighting coffee and clove, preparing the palate for another sip. Silky and sharply acidic, this is a wine that endures over time, revealing its many layers of elegance and delight with every taste. SERVING Irresistible on its own or with Strong cheeses, Pates, main dishes with dried fruits, foigras and dishes with spices. Best served at a temperature between 14ºC and 16°C. HISTORY In 1636, a journey took place between Hamburg and Portugal that would prove to be the root of a long story: Nicolau Köpke arrived in his new country as Consul General of the Hanseatic Cities. Two years later, in 1638, he signed the first bottles of wine sent to Northern Europe. The purchase of a farm in Douro, in 1781, marks the transition from a purchasing company to a large wine producer. Port Wines are gaining importance in the company, quickly becoming the main business. Nicolau Kopke & Co. becomes an example of innovation, integrating wine production and trade in the same company. In 1841, the firm assumed the name of C. N. Kopke, a name which remains as such to this day. In the coming centuries, Kopke will strive to honor its legacy, which has been built with passion across generations. PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
