The sculpture captures a serene, classical feminine form, hand-modelled in warm terracotta clay. Sugiyama is a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) and its postgraduate sculpture programme. He has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout Japan and abroad, and is a two-time recipient of the Special Excellence Prize at the Rodin Prize Exhibition, with his award-winning works held by the Utsukushigahara Open-Air Museum and the Hakone Open-Air Museum. His public monuments include the large-scale work “Gate of the Muse ‘96” installed at Odaiba in Tokyo. The piece comes with an original artist biography leaflet listing his major exhibitions and public collections. White powdering is present on the surface, and minor blemishes and signs of handling can be seen, but it remains in good used condition overall. Please refer to the photos for full details.
