Byôbu (folding screen) - Silke, Sølvblad, Lakk - Japan - Taishō-perioden (1912 – 1926)
A lovely, tall six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) finished with oxidized silver leaf 銀箔 (ginpaku). Over time, silver leaf naturally develops a soft patina, giving the surface a subtle and refined aged character.
Mounted with a double silk border: an inner ecru band and a broader green outer band. Framed in a black lacquered wooden frame.
In Japan, such tranquil and even screens are often used as a backdrop for ikebana flower arrangements or to accompany other decorative or ceremonial objects.
Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926).
Dimensions:
Total width: 350.8 cm (2 x 59.8 cm and 4 x 57.8 cm); Height: 173.4 cm.
In a very good restored condition with minor signs of age-related wear to both sides. Two restorations of silver leaf 5th and 6th panel. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
This room divider is well suited for mounting flat on a wall and displaying as a single artwork.
When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
Please note: Due to the holidays, shipping and handling times may be longer. Thank you for your understanding.
