Hardcover in grey cloth binding with printed boards, black stamped lettering on the spine, and a matching cardboard folder with purple ribbon ties and black stamped lettering on the spine. Limited and numbered monumental folio edition of this German translation of the Upanishads, the ancient Sanskrit texts that form the philosophical foundation of Hinduism. This being No. 346 of 450 total copies, printed on specially made Zanders paper. Beautifully illustrated and decorated throughout by Ernst Scchneidler. The text was set in Behrens Schrift (Antiqua and Fraktur), a typeface designed by the renowned architect and designer Peter Behrens. Rubbing, bumping, wear, and soiling to the folder Rubbing, bumping, and wear to the boards and spine. The spine is fraying a bit at both hinges at the top and bottom. Ex Libris sticker and traces of a removed sticker on the front pastedown endpaper. Traces of removed sticker on the verso of the front free endpaper. Some pages are a bit creased at the edges. Only little browning and spotting throughout. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is a bit soft. Overall, a nice copy in very good- condition.
