The Hozan studio, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, was renowned for its high-quality bronze works cast by the lost-wax method (rôgata chûzô 蝋型鋳造). The workshop produced okimono 置物, flower vases, kôro 香炉 (incense burners) for tea ceremony, and other refined metal artworks, and also created molds for leading metal artists of the period. Three generations of masters carried on the name Hozan, with the third generation passing away in 2011.
