Each piece features a distinctive carved surface design resembling swirling clouds or waves, demonstrating the artist’s technical precision and creative sensitivity to texture and form. Executed in subtly different tones—two in soft off-white and one in a pale pink hue—the set presents an elegant visual harmony while showcasing natural variations that occur during the ceramic process. The incised patterns flow rhythmically around the forms, creating a sense of motion and depth. While conceived as art sculptures, these works can also be used as lampshades, adding a unique artistic presence to interior spaces. Each piece bears the artist’s impressed signature “Jin Jin” near the rim, a hallmark of Sakata’s later works. These objects transcend traditional functional pottery, standing as individual works of ceramic art. Mashiko ware originated in the late Edo period in Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture. Celebrated for its earthy texture and warmth, it remains one of Japan’s most beloved pottery traditions. Sakata’s work extends this legacy into the realm of modern art through innovative surface treatment and conceptual design. Jinnai Sakata studied under Shoji Kamoda in 1964 and established his kiln in Mashiko in 1966. His career spans ceramics, glass, and design, and his works have been exhibited extensively both in Japan and internationally. Good used condition with minor stains and subtle marks from handling and use. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx.
