Antikvitet Glassmaleri - Religious Fire-painted - 1920-1930

A luminous and expressive 1920s stained-glass panel, executed in the traditional craft of hand made fire-painting on colored glass, framed in solid lead borders. The composition depicts a symbolic, radiant motif centered around a glowing triangle-form, surrounded by dynamic beams of light and stylized natural elements below. The glass shows a textured painterly surface characteristic of fired enamel pigments from the early 20th century, giving it a distinctive artisan depth that elevates it well above standard decorative panels. This unique , one of a kind panel offers high-end quality visual impact both by day and night: when backlit by natural or artificial light, the fire-painted pigments intensify and produce a warm, almost theatrical glow. Its vertical proportions and rich colour palette make it an atmospheric accent for a classic interior, study, gallery wall, or curated decorative arts display. Provenance & technique Period: approx. 1920s Craft: fire-painted (enamel pigments fired onto glass at high temperature) Materials: coloured glass, fired enamel pigments, lead cames, solid lead frame and chain suspension Origin: private collection, the Netherlands Mounting: fitted with original hanging chains, ready for display Dimensions & weight approx. 33 x 18 x 0.5 cm (h x w x d) Condition Excellent condition No cracks, no chipping, no loose glass Lead frame structurally solid, joints intact Fire-painting well preserved with strong pigment adhesion Shows minor age-appropriate surface wear consistent with 1920s fired glasswork (see photos) Historical context Fire-painting on stained glass (also known as glass enamelling) became a respected discipline long before the 1920s, but experienced a renewed artistic impulse in the early 20th century, when ecclesiastical workshops and artisan studios blended traditional Gothic techniques with modern stylistic symbolism. Unlike unfired glass paints, enamel pigments are fused into the surface of the glass through kiln firing, making panels like this far more durable and chromatically intense than later cold-painted decorative glass. Smaller interior devotional and symbolic panels were often collected by designers, clergy, and decorative-arts enthusiasts who valued craftsmanship, light effects, and the revival of artisanal disciplines during the interwar period.
