Gandhara Skifer Hode av Bodhisattva - 3. til 5. århundre e.Kr.

A Beautiful Gandhara Schist Head of Bodhisattva, 3rd Century - 5th Century AD H5.8 x W2.6 x D2.5 cm (H13 cm with Stand) The sculpture displays the characteristic synthesis of Greco-Roman naturalism and Buddhist iconography for which Gandharan art is renowned. The face is gently modeled with a calm, introspective expression, almond-shaped eyes, and softly defined lips, conveying a sense of inner serenity and spiritual contemplation. The hair is arranged in stylized waves drawn up into a high topknot (ushnisha), a traditional attribute associated with enlightened beings. Traces of age-related wear and surface encrustation are consistent with the object’s considerable antiquity and long burial history. Despite its fragmentary condition, the head retains a strong sculptural presence and refined workmanship, offering a compelling example of early Buddhist devotional art from the northwestern regions of the Indian subcontinent. The sculpture is presented in a custom-made transparent display mount, allowing for viewing from multiple angles, and is accompanied by an elegant fitted presentation box, suitable for both safe storage and refined display. A rare and evocative fragment, this Gandharan Bodhisattva head would make a meaningful addition to a serious collection of ancient art, Buddhist sculpture, or early religious antiquities. Provenance: Acquired from a private collection in 1982, Paris The photo of proof of origin and certificate of authenticity will be provided via email. Condition: Overall in good condition. Some abrasion caused by age. Overall surface is covered with soil. No restoration. Shipping worldwide, usually 14-21 days to deliver. The photo of proof of origin and certificate of authenticity will be provided via email.
