Shimizu Yasutaka ( 清水保孝) - Chawan - Keramikk

This exceptional Japanese tea bowl (Chawan) features the refined Baika Kairagi Yū motif, a decorative surface expression highly valued in traditional Japanese tea ceramics. “Kairagi” refers to the distinctive shark-skin–like texture created when a feldspar-rich glaze naturally contracts during firing, an effect long cherished as an embodiment of the wabi-sabi aesthetic. “Baika” (plum blossom) poetically describes the irregular, scattered patterns reminiscent of plum flowers, while “Yū” signifies the free, flowing movement of the motif as it appears naturally across the surface. This harmonious balance between skilled craftsmanship and accidental kiln effects is deeply appreciated by tea masters, ceramic enthusiasts, and international collectors alike. The bowl is preserved in very fine condition, with no visible damage or restoration. Created by Shimizu Yasutaka, son of the renowned ceramic artist Shimizu Uichi, this work comes with its original signed tomobako (artist’s wooden box), confirming its authenticity and value. Artist Profile Shimizu Yasutaka, son of the renowned ceramic artist Shimizu Uichi, comes from a prestigious lineage of Japanese pottery. Deeply influenced by his father’s mastery of glaze techniques and ceramic philosophy, he has developed his own distinctive style that emphasizes natural kiln effects, subtle textures, and refined surface expression. In addition to his recognition in Japan, Shimizu Yasutaka’s works have also gained high acclaim internationally, particularly among collectors and tea ceremony practitioners in Europe, North America, and Asia. His tea ceramics are appreciated for their authenticity, depth of expression, and harmonious balance between tradition and individuality, making his works sought after both domestically and overseas. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
