Antikvitet Glassmaleri - 1910–1920 - Religiøst panel

Fire-Painted Stained Glass Religious Panel – Hand-Painted – ca. 1900–1920 In excellent condition – No reserve. A beautifully atmospheric antique, richly fire-painted stained glass panel, depicting a rural harvest scene rooted in medieval iconographic tradition. The composition shows two male figures harvesting grain in a field, while a seated woman in the foreground holds a jug. The scene conveys both agricultural labour and domestic symbolism, rendered with strong outlines and expressive facial features. The panel is executed using traditional vitreous (fire-painted) techniques, where enamel pigments are painted directly onto the glass and permanently fused through kiln firing. This method allows for refined detailing in faces, hands, garments, and landscape textures, clearly visible in the dynamic grain field and the expressive gestures of the figures. The vibrant colour palette—deep cobalt blue, golden yellow, rich red, and soft grey—creates a striking visual effect when illuminated, while the lead cames emphasise the graphic, almost modernist character of the composition. Details Object: Stained glass panel Technique: Fire-painted (vitreous enamel, kiln-fired) Motif: Rural harvest scene / Biblical symbolism Iconography: “Labours of the Months” tradition Period: Early 20th century (circa 1920–1940) Origin: Europe Material: Hand-painted glass with lead cames Dimensions: 37.5 × 28 cm (h × w) Condition: In excellent vintage condition; no cracks or restorations observed, minor age-related wear consistent with age Mounting: Original leaded border with metal hanging chains Historical context Scenes of agricultural labour have a long visual tradition in European art, most notably in the medieval iconographic cycle known as the “Labours of the Months”, in which each month of the year was represented by typical seasonal activities such as sowing, harvesting, or wine-making. These images appeared in illuminated manuscripts, church sculpture, and stained glass windows. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, stained glass artists revived and reinterpreted this medieval imagery, combining historic subject matter with more expressive drawing styles and bolder colour contrasts influenced by Art Nouveau and early modern graphic design. This panel reflects that revival, translating a centuries-old visual language into a compact and highly decorative stained glass composition. Shipping Carefully packed and professionally shipped Tracked and insured shipping Worldwide shipping available An atmospheric and historically grounded stained glass panel, ideal for collectors of religious or rural iconography, historic interiors, or as a striking accent piece in both classical and contemporary settings.
