A scarce and attractive mid-19th-century German songbook, Deutsche Lieder nebst ihren Melodien, published in Leipzig by Robert Friese in 1848. This volume contains a substantial collection of German patriotic, student, drinking, folk and popular songs, each printed with staff musical notation, making it both a literary and musical document of its time. The book opens with an engraved pictorial title page and is followed by a typographic title page listing the contents: I. Vaterlandslieder II. Burschen- und Trinklieder III. Volkslieder Notably, the volume includes “Das Lied der Deutschen” (Germany’s national anthem) with musical notation, adding historical and cultural significance. ⸻ Manuscript inscription / provenance The front endpaper bears a contemporary handwritten ownership inscription, dated October 1848, with the name Just Weber (or similar; legibility as shown in images).
