Kabuto (1) - Edo - Japan

This is a Japanese samurai helmet from the Edo period. The Kabuto is called Zunari Kabuto 頭形兜. There are kanji characters engraved in the center, but I don't know exactly what they are. The Zunari Kabuto 頭形兜 is a type of helmet thought to have emerged at the end of the Heian period. It is believed to have originated from a different lineage than the Musuji Kabuto. It was widely used from the Sengoku period onwards. As the name suggests, the shape of the helmet bowl is most distinctive, resembling a human head. Shikoro could have been added later. The Zunari Kabuto was apparently called a Hat Kabuto in ancient times, and traces of its existence can be traced back to the Heian period. The Zunari Kabuto helmets of that time are thought to have been shaped similarly to what is now called the Kotogata helmet, and were called the Sanmai Kabuto (three-plate hat helmet) and Gomai Kabuto (five-plate hat helmet), names that seem to indicate the number of plates on the joint. It has some dirt, scratches, tears, fading, stains, damage, and holes. It may have been repaired in the past. HEIGHT 25.8 cm WIDTH 28.5 cm DEPTH 30.4 cm WEIGHT 1110 g ※Thank you very much for viewing our product. This item is free shipping. There is no shipping charge. Thank you for your consideration.
