This photo was created by Bert, he wanted Marilyn to look like a painting and he printed this gorgeous image on heavy textured matte archival paper. It is grainy on purpose, so from afar you see Marilyn coming through. 
Bert worked on his own negatives, cleaned them and enhanced his images, creating brilliant vibrant photos you see today. He printed using several inks dyed into the archival photo paper, he called them Pigment Prints, guaranteed not to fade for 100 years.
