Tsukimiya, Mito - 1 Original page - Yakuza Wolf - 1994

Original page of Yakuza Wolf by Mito Tsukimiya published by Home Run Comics (Tokosha) in 1969 Media : pencil & ink on paper Condition : Very good Size : 24,7 x 35,2 cm Mito Tsukimiya was an artist of extraordinary range, producing works that spanned sensual themes, the bizarre and occult, and gekiga. His popularity was so big that even his jidaigeki (period dramas) were regularly granted dedicated special-feature issues. In his depictions of swordplay, the power of the inking is immediately apparent. Each expression is charged with a forceful hand, and the pressure of the line work itself draws the eye, making even a simple scene particularly compelling Yakuza Wolf features a tough anti-hero, sharp and energetic inking, and the image of the lone wolf, which brings to mind 'Lone Wolf and Cub' by Goseki Kojima. Tsukimiya and Kojima both came from the 1960's rental manga scene and were influenced by yakuza films and the lone warrior. Their work shared a strong psychological and dark, cinematic style. 'Sultans of Manga' specializes in manga from the Shōwa era or more specifically; the original drawings of Japanese manga artists ranging from the most famous to the most obscure.
