The 1935 Swiss 20 Francs "Vreneli" is far more than a beautiful gold coin; it is a monument to monetary neutrality and survival during the Great Depression. While the rest of the world was abandoning the Gold Standard and devaluing their currencies to survive the economic collapse of the 1930s, Switzerland remained one of the last bastions of "hard money."

Denne 1935-utgaven er spesielt betydningsfull. På et tidspunkt da trusselen om en ny verdenskrig truet over Europa, ble den sveitsiske francen det ultimate globale fristedet. Å holde en "Vreneli" betydde å holde uavhengighet fra politisk kaos. Den representerte et finansielt system som nektet å trykke fiat-penger ut av luften, og isteden valgte å opprettholde en 1:1 tillit til gull.
