Compared to horse saddles, ox saddles have survived in far smaller numbers, and examples decorated with such elaborate mother-of-pearl inlay are particularly uncommon. Pieces of this quality were likely commissioned by wealthy households or used in ceremonial processions and festive occasions. The entire frame is richly adorned with dense mother-of-pearl inlay, creating a shimmering surface that reflects light beautifully. This decorative technique demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship of the period. The stable, substantial form characteristic of ox saddles is harmoniously combined with metal fittings, resulting in a powerful and dignified presence. This is an authentic historical antique and shows age-related damage. There are extensive areas of loss and wear overall. Lacquer peeling, chips, cracks, and wear to the locking bar are present. There are losses to the wood. The metal fittings show verdigris, deformation, and lifting in places. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx. H 42 cm W 66.5 cm D 54.5 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
