Henrique MAPS - The Great Migration (original hand-painted art)

Title: “The Great Migration” Mixed media on Sand Grain paper — watercolour, ink, marker and crayon on natural-toned 160g/m² paper. 21 × 29 cm / 8.3 × 11.7 in A blue whale sails through a desert sky, unbothered by the impossibility of it, drifting between clouds above a sun-baked adobe town. Below, silhouetted figures dance and drum to a rhythm written right into the earth — “Bum Bum Bum” scratched into the ground like a heartbeat. Red drums anchor the scene on both sides, cacti stand tall as witnesses, and cryptic timestamps float in the air like coordinates to somewhere just out of reach. Everything is moving. The whale migrates through air, the dancers through dust, the town pulses with colour against the warm ochre earth. The layered mixed media surface — resist, loose watercolour washes, gestural white marks — gives the whole piece a worn, ritualistic quality, like a memory being relived rather than recorded. A celebration of movement, rhythm, and the ancient human instinct to keep going. Painting sold by artist directly. Henrique MAPS (1994) is a contemporary visual artist working in painting and mixed media. His work combines figurative and abstract elements to explore identity, social structures, and cultural observation through bold compositions featuring humans, animals, and symbolic imagery. Working primarily with acrylics, chinese ink, drawing, and collage on canvas, MAPS creates psychologically charged paintings characterized by layered textures, graphic elements, and recurring motifs of eyes, hands, and silhouettes. His culturally conscious practice examines contemporary social dynamics while drawing inspiration from diverse artistic traditions including urban art, modernism, and expressionism.
