Ancient Roman bronze seal ring with a circular raised bezel set on a short pedestal above the hoop. The bezel surface is engraved with a simple cross motif composed of four straight intersecting lines. The design is worn but still discernible. The hoop gently widens towards the shoulders.
-> The construction, with a small disc-shaped bezel raised above the hoop, is characteristic of Roman signet rings intended for sealing or marking soft materials such as wax or clay. Simple engraved geometric motifs such as crosses and linear designs were commonly used on Roman rings, serving either decorative purposes or as personal seal marks.
Outside diameter: ± 22,7 mm
Inside diameter: ± 19,8 - 21,1 mm
Bezel: ± 10,4 mm
Condition: good solid condition, wearable. Signs of patina and wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
