Henrique MAPS - Beneath Us All (original hand-painted art)

Title: Beneath Us All Mixed media on Sand Grain paper — watercolour, ink, marker and acrylic on natural-toned 160g/m² paper. 21 × 29 cm / 8.3 × 11.7 in A lone silhouetted figure sits on the edge of a doorframe, knees pulled in, watching a world that sprawls and fractures in every direction. A blazing yellow sun burns overhead. Below, the word “ALONE” is scratched faintly into the surface — half-hidden, half-confessed. Fish drift through a deep teal wash as if the ocean has swallowed part of the land whole, a tiny cactus stands its ground in the chaos, and a miniature colourful town teeters at the edge of the water. Spiralling halos float near the figure’s head — somewhere between the sacred and the unravelling. The composition is deliberately restless — collage-like blocks of hot pink, deep teal, orange and red crash against each other across the surface, held together only by a web of white crayon marks and scratched texture. It feels less like a painting and more like the inside of a mind mid-thought. Tender, loud, and quietly heartbreaking all at once — a portrait of solitude in an overstimulated world. Painting sold by artist directly. Henrique MAPS (1994) is a contemporary visual artist working in painting and mixed media. His work combines figurative and abstract elements to explore identity, social structures, and cultural observation through bold compositions featuring humans, animals, and symbolic imagery. Working primarily with acrylics, chinese ink, drawing, and collage on canvas, MAPS creates psychologically charged paintings characterized by layered textures, graphic elements, and recurring motifs of eyes, hands, and silhouettes. His culturally conscious practice examines contemporary social dynamics while drawing inspiration from diverse artistic traditions including urban art, modernism, and expressionism.
