Bitossi - Aldo Londi - Vase - Keramikk - Rimini Hvit

On offer is a lovely vintage ceramic vase, created by the legendary Italian designer Aldo Londi (1911-2003) for Bitossi Ceramiche, is from the RIMINI series. This heavy piece is from the 1960s and very ‘retro’ in its design, with a beautiful geometric pattern of alternating raised rows of diamonds and lines, along with indented rows of dots. It is hand-painted in rich tones of sky blue, moss green and royal purple on a white (greyish) background, and then hand-glazed giving the vase a high-gloss coating. It is a splendid example of Italian mid-century modern design. CONDITION: The vase is in fine vintage condition, no chips, cracks or repairs and the glaze is still shiny and fresh. DIMENSIONS: 20.5 cm high, 10 cm diameter. ALDO LONDI (1911-2003) was a ceramicist, painter and sculptor. He created objects that are an important part of Italy’s rich cultural heritage. At age 11, he began working for the renowned ceramics company, Fratelli Fanciullacci, where he learned the traditional techniques of pottery making. Eventually, after World War II, he became Art Director at the famous Bitossi family ceramics studio in Montelupo, Fiorentino (Tuscany). With Londi’s designs and approach, Bitossi ceramics were transformed. Londi’s original style led to creation of contemporary and highly distinctive pieces made by using the traditional hand-crafted methods. For Bitossi, he designed his most famous lines of pottery such as ‘Rimini Blu’, ‘Arkitectura’, ‘Mondrian’, ‘Musk’, ‘Lobster’, ‘Sevilla’ and ‘Etrusca’. In the middle of the 20th century, these lines were distributed widely in the United States by the Raymor Company — which, at the time, was one of the most influential importers and distributors of modern decorative arts in America. For more than 50 years, Londi designed more than 1,000 art pottery objects, including vases, jugs, clocks and animal figurines. BITOSSI CERAMICHE is a long-standing leader in the manufacture of Italian ceramics. When Guido Bitossi founded the brand in 1921, his family were already part of a centuries-old ceramics tradition. Bitossi’s ancestors had been kiln workers, sculptors, painters and potters in Montelupo, Fiorentino (near Florence), since the 1530s. Until the end of the 1940s, Bitossi ceramics reflected the traditional tastes of Tuscany. With the 1946 arrival of Aldo Londi as Art Director, Bitossi designs evolved into contemporary and unique creations exported all over the world. The Bitossi factory has remained a family-run business for five generations; and in 2014, it was included in the national registry of significant historical Italian companies. Both its vintage and its new pieces showcase the excellence of Italian artistry and craftsmanship. SHIPPING: The vase will be carefully wrapped, boxed and shipped with a track and trace code.
