Saul Leiter - Forever Saul Leiter (MINT CONDITION) - 2021

Welcome to the next edition of the VERY POPULAR SINGLE-SELLER-AUCTIONS by 5Uhr30.com (Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany). This time with a BEST-OF-SELECTION from 1926 to 2026, so of the last 100 (!) years of photobook history. GREAT OPPORTUNITY to purchase this super beautiful Saul Leiter title - in BRANDNEW CONDITION. "Considered the great pioneer of colour photography, Saul Leiter (1923-2013) has inspired several generations of photographers. He lived for over sixty years in New York's East Village, a neighbourhood populated at the time by artists of all kinds, the homeless, immigrants and lonely old people. His work is full of photographs taken through windows, in doorways or in the reflection of mirrors. Saul Leiter does not seek the image. On the contrary, he captures transcendent moments that have no intention - the poetry of the instant and the intimate, whose fragility he measures and whose grace he fully restores." (from the publisher) NEW, MINT, UNREAD - COLLECTOR'S COPY. 5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection, 100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide. Thames and Hudson, London. 2021. Originally published by Shogakukan, Tokyo, in 2020. Paperback with dustjacket. 150 x 210 mm. 296 pages. Photos: Saul Leiter. Designed by Osamu Ouchi. Text in English. Excellent Saul Leiter publication - in perfect condition. Although Edward Steichen had exhibited some of Saul Leiter's colour photography at the Museum of Modern Art in 1953, it remained virtually unknown to the world thereafter. Saul Leiter moved to New York in 1946 to become a painter, yet through his friendship with Richard Pousette-Dart he quickly recognized the creative potential of photography. Saul Leiter continued to paint, exhibiting with Philip Guston and Willem de Kooning, but the camera remained his ever-present means of recording life in the metropolis. None of Leiter's contemporaries, with the partial exception of Helen Levitt, assembled a comparable body of work: subtle, often abstract compositions of lyrical, eloquent colour.
