Tefat - Steintøy - Jernsvart chawan

Item Description A fine Japanese ceramic matcha tea bowl (chawan) by an unidentified but accomplished studio potter, housed in a traditional paulownia wood box (kiribako). The bowl displays a captivating interplay of iron-black glaze as the base, overlaid with flowing patterns of warm yellow-ochre and mottled green that drift across the surface like clouds or shifting mountain mist. This sophisticated combination of glazes speaks to a high level of technical mastery and artistic sensibility. The interior is covered in a deep, lustrous iron-black glaze with a subtly crystalline surface texture that shimmers gently in changing light. The outer wall reveals a dynamic landscape of dark iron tones punctuated by amber-yellow and olive-green passages, with the glaze naturally thinning toward the rim to expose the warm clay body beneath. The unglazed foot ring (kōdai) is formed from red clay with clear spiral throwing marks visible on the base — a hallmark of hand-thrown craftsmanship. A square impressed seal (kakuhan) of the potter is stamped near the foot ring, confirming this as a signed studio work. The bowl is presented in a fitted paulownia wood box, as befits a quality piece intended for the tea ceremony or serious collecting. Size Height: 6.5 cm Width: 13.5 cm Depth: 13.5 cm Weight 278 g Condition The bowl is in good overall condition with minor natural glaze variations and light surface wear on the interior consistent with prior use, typical of a handmade ceramic tea bowl. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
