This is the Shō Kannon 聖観世音菩薩 (Holy Kannon Bodhisattva) created by Seibo Kitamura 北村西望. Shō Kannon 聖観世音菩薩 (Holy Kannon Bodhisattva) is a form of Kannon Bodhisattva, also known as Avalokiteśvara in Sanskrit, and is revered in Buddhism as a symbol of compassion and salvation. Kannon is a widely worshiped figure in Mahayana Buddhism, particularly known for hearing the cries of sentient beings and working tirelessly to alleviate their suffering. Key Characteristics: Appearance: Shō Kannon is often depicted in a peaceful and graceful manner, usually in a standing or seated position. The figure typically holds a lotus flower in one hand, symbolizing purity, while the other hand performs a mudra (sacred hand gesture) representing mercy and compassion. He was awarded the Order of Culture. Seibo Kitamura passed away in 1987 at the age of 104. He was a recipient of the Order of Culture and the Order of the Sacred Treasure, as well as being designated as a Person of Cultural Merit. In recognition of Seibo's achievements, the Japan Sculptors Association established an award named the "Seibo Kitamura Award" (Seibo Award) for the best work at the association's exhibitions.
