Oldtidens Hellas, mykensk Sølv Alexander den Store drachme
A very fine Ancient Greek silver drachm struck in the name and types of Alexander III the Great. The obverse displays the profiled head of Alexander as Herakles wearing the skin of the Nemean lion, facing right. The reverse displays the god, Zeus, enthroned on the left, holding an eagle in his right hand and a sceptre in his left. The Greek inscription ΑΛΕΞΑΝ∆ΡΟΥ is written vertically to the right of the figure of Zeus. The legend, written in the genitive case, translates as ALEXANDROY, meaning [the coinage] ‘of Alexander’. In the left field, there is a mouse facing right. The coin was likely minted in 310–301 BC in Lampsacus.
