Shepard Fairey (OBEY) (1970) - Not A Terrorist

Not a Terrorist. 13″ H x 10″ W. Letterpress on cream cotton paper with hand-deckled edges.. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Numbered edition of 450. Obey publishing chop in lower left corner. This “Not a Terrorist” print is a reminder that despite pervasive fear-mongering, Islamophobia, and anti-Arab rhetoric we are all equally human and deserving of equal human rights. I’ve traveled across the world and found kind, creative, thoughtful people everywhere I’ve been, including the Middle East and Africa. People are people everywhere and anyone who says otherwise has an agenda to promote hate and divide that should be rejected. Travel is an eye and mind opener I’d highly recommend! -Shepard A major figure of the contemporary street art movement, Shepard Fairey rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” campaign, which distributed posters, stickers, and murals featuring the eponymous wrestler around Providence, Rhode Island. Fairey’s iconic 2008 “Hope” campaign poster for President Barack Obama encapsulates a number of the artist’s recurring concerns, including propaganda, portraiture, and political power. Shepard Fairey is from the same generation artists like: D*Face, Fin Dac, Invader, Whatshisname, Imbue, Kaws, Blek the Rat, Speedy Graphito, Dran, Seth, Banksy, Alessio B., JonOne, C215, Arsham, Bambi, Tabby, Basquiat, Faile, Martin Whatson, Eelus, Pure Evil, Mr. Brainwash, or JR. His work, which has sold for six figures at auction, can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. NOTES: All of my prints have been stored flat in a smoke-free environment since original purchase. All are in Mint / Excellent original condition unless otherwise noted.
