ABOUT THE ARTIST Sean Scully (born 1945) is an Irish-American painter and one of the most important contemporary abstract artists. Born in Dublin and raised in London, he later moved to the United States, where he developed his distinctive style based on layered stripes, blocks, and geometric forms. His paintings combine abstraction with emotional depth, using rich textures and carefully balanced color relationships. Scully was initially influenced by Minimalism, but he introduced a more expressive and human dimension into geometric abstraction.
