Mino-yaki - Keizan (桂山) - Tefat - Leire

Japanese Matcha Tea Bowl (Chawan) “Keizan” (桂山作) – Mino Ware A refined Japanese tea bowl (chawan) accompanied by its original signed wooden box (tomobako), bearing the inscription “Keizan saku” (桂山作). This piece is a kiln operating under the name “Keizan,” associated with Mino ware production in Gifu Prefecture. The designation “Keizan” is known to refer to a lineage or workshop name used across multiple generations. Based on stylistic and technical characteristics, this work can be reasonably placed within the late Shōwa to Heisei period (circa 1970s–2000s). The bowl features a harmonious glaze composition combining soft turquoise-green tones with iron-red (cinnabar-like) speckling and flowing transitions. This type of glaze effect—reminiscent of kiln transformation (yōhen)—is characteristic of modern Mino ceramic techniques, where layered glazes create organic, atmospheric patterns during firing. The form is well-balanced and wheel-thrown, with a clean and precisely finished foot (kōdai). The interior reveals subtle spiral throwing marks, while the foot ring remains neatly trimmed and unglazed, further supporting a modern production context rather than an early historic piece. The accompanying wooden box is inscribed in brush with “Keizan saku,” indicating authorship by the Keizan workshop. Condition: Very good condition with no visible cracks or repairs. Minor surface wear consistent with careful handling. Dimensions: Height: 8.5 cm Width: 12 cm Depth: 12 cm Weight: 268 g NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
