The poster was created during the period when Jan Cremer was living in New York's Chelsea Hotel following the succes of 'Ik Jan Cremer'. At the time, Gustave Asselbergs maintained an intense correspondence with him. The English-language design was likely intended specifically for Cremer in New York. The poster also bears the Amsterdam telephone number of Asselbergs: "Phone 66524".
