Gerry Johansson – Tyre Choice – Libraryman, 2017 (First Edition, Limited & Numbered 124/400)

A brilliant, rare, and highly conceptual piece of contemporary Swedish photography from an absolute master of the medium.

Published in 2017 by the esteemed art-house publisher Libraryman, Tyre Choice (ISBN: 9789188113078) is a brilliant departure and thematic play by the celebrated photographer Gerry Johansson. Known worldwide for his stark, geometric, and geographically bound black-and-white landscape books (America, Sweden, Deutschland), this highly collectible title brings his distinctive graphic eye to an oddly specific, fascinatingly mundane object: the tire.

The F1 Concept & Design Homage: Borrowing its title from racing jargon—where making the correct "tyre choice" spells the difference between victory and defeat—the book's layout is a masterful structural homage to traditional Formula 1 rules. The number of plates and the extent of the edition reference the historic "107% rule" and the traditional 12-lap qualifying limits.

A Global Visual Essay: Featuring 24 exquisite duotone plates spanning over five decades of photography (1962–2016), Johansson tracks his anonymous, meticulously composed subjects across an international terrain including Sweden, Mongolia, the USA, Japan, Spain, and Germany.

This cloth-bound hardcover volume was strictly limited to a hand-numbered run of only 400 copies, making it an exceptionally elusive find for photography book collectors today.

Publisher: Libraryman (2017), First Edition
Format: Hardcover, linen-thread bound, featuring an authentic tip-in image on the front cover with white foil typography.Dimensions: Large format (31.2cm x 25cm) Plates: 24 high-end duotone offset printed plates across 36 pages.

A sharp, witty, and essential addition to any curated collection of modern photobooks.
