Islamic Signet Ring – Islamic World – 10th to 13th Century AD
A substantial bronze signet ring featuring a broad polygonal bezel engraved with an abstract linear composition, likely intended as a personal seal or symbolic device. The ring displays the characteristic form of medieval Islamic seal rings, with a flat engraved face designed to leave an impression in wax, clay, or other soft materials. Its robust construction and large bezel indicate that it served both practical and decorative functions.
The engraved surface exhibits extensive age-related wear from centuries of handling, softening the original design while preserving the overall composition. A dark brown to olive patina covers the bronze surface, highlighting the ring’s antiquity and authentic use. Objects of this type were widely employed throughout the medieval Islamic world as personal identifiers, administrative tools, and expressions of status.
