Nepal Silver 2 Mohars (Double Mohar) – King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah (r. 1911–1955)
Up for bids is a beautifully preserved Nepalese silver 2 Mohars (Double Mohar) from the reign of King Tribhuvan Bir Bikram Shah. This auction includes the exact historic coin shown in the detailed obverse and reverse views.
Design: The obverse features a complex square geometric frame containing the king's formal titles in clear Devanagari script (Sri Sri Sri Tribhuvan Vira Vikrama Shah Deva), surrounding a central circular emblem. The reverse displays a stylized eight-petaled lotus flower encircling a central ritual sword (Khadga) draped with a garland, a hallmark emblem of classical Nepalese numismatics.
Historical Context: Struck during the Shah Dynasty, this iconic silver issue represents Nepal's rich, independent Himalayan currency system, maintaining its unique artistic and spiritual numismatic traditions completely separate from neighboring British India coinage.
Grade: The piece boasts an exceptionally sharp, high-relief strike with fantastic preservation of the fine linework, geometric borders, and Devanagari characters. It features a handsome, deep grey cabinet patina that beautifully highlights the recessed fields and outer beaded rims.
