HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE LARGE TABLOID-STYLE PUBLICATION depicting the protest of the Gezi Park movement at Taksim Square in Istanbul during May and June of 2013. The color photographs of the protest by Frederic Lezmi depict the typical scenes of police and protesters, damaged property, graffiti, banners, camp sites. STRONGLY LIMITED TO 1000 COPIES ONLY. "Taksim Calling" was selected for his exhibition "Protest Books 1956-2013" at "Grand Palais" in Paris on the occasion of the fair "Paris Photo" in 2013, curated by Martin Parr, text by Gerry Badger. Lezmi`s 100 Polaroid size photographs of the protest are mixed with a 10 full page archival photographs of the famous square, taken from postcard images. The chosen format should be understood as a critique of the Turkish newspapers who all but ignored the protests. Lezmi is an Istanbul based photographer and book designer with German and Lebanese background. Born 1978, grew up in Dakar, Geneva and the Black Forest. After a year as assistant to German photographer Wolgang Zurborn at Galerie Lichtblick in Cologne, he studied visual communication from 2001 to 2009 with an emphasis on documentary photography at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. In 2005/2006 he spend a study year in Beirut as a recipient of a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). His graduation series "From Vienna to Beirut" has received the BFF-Promotion Award as well as the Reinhart-Wolf Prize 2009 for best final degree work in photography.
