Magnificent large antique French wine claret jug (Aiguière) from the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900), executed in the elegant Historicism / Napoleon III style.
The jug features a heavy, beautifully hand-cut crystal body and an exquisite solid silver mount. The hinged lid and handle are decorated with finely detailed classical relief ornaments.
Crucially, the interior of the silver top features its original rich gilding (vermeil) in beautiful condition, which historically protected the metal from wine acidity.
Material: French Solid Silver (.950/1000) & Heavy Cut Crystal.
Hallmarks: Stamped with the official French Minerva 1st titre guarantee hallmark (.950) on the silver elements.
