Introduction

This is a Bull's Eye open-face pocket watch made in the USA, featuring a bold black dial with large white Arabic numerals, luminous-style white hands, and a subsidiary seconds register at the 6 o'clock position. The dial is signed 'Bull's Eye' and also reads 'MADE IN U.S.A.' along the lower chapter ring. The watch is manually wound and runs on a lever-set movement stamped 'MADE IN U.S.A.' on the mainplate.

Historical / Era context

Bull's Eye was a trade name used on American-made open-face pocket watches, produced during the early-to-mid 20th century. The exposed movement visible through the open caseback shows a classic American-style layout with a large mainspring barrel, lever escapement, and a brass balance wheel with a flat hairspring — typical of utilitarian-grade domestic production. The dial's high-contrast black-and-white design and convex 'bull's-eye' crystal were practical choices suited to everyday working use. The movement plate is stamped 'MADE IN U.S.A.' and carries a regulator index marked 'S...F', consistent with American pocket watch manufacturing conventions of that era.

Condition

The watch is running at the time of listing.

Case: The case shows moderate to heavy wear overall: the mid-band has significant surface scratches, tarnishing, and loss of original finish across most of its circumference. The caseback exterior carries an engine-turned (guilloché) pattern that is largely intact but shows scattered light marks. The inner caseback, visible in photos, shows scratching consistent with prior opening. The bow and crown are intact and functional.

Dial: The black dial is largely legible with all numerals and hands clearly readable. There is noticeable crazing or fine cracking to the dial lacquer surface, and scattered light scratches are visible under the crystal. The 'Bull's Eye' and 'MADE IN U.S.A.' text remain fully legible.

Crystal: The convex glass crystal is present and intact but carries multiple fine scratches and scuffs across its surface, reducing clarity to some degree. No cracks are observed.

Movement: The watch is running well at the time of listing. The movement winds and sets normally via the crown. The movement interior shows some light surface oxidation/rust spotting on the steel parts but the escapement appears to be functioning.

Accessories: Comes with the period-style curb-link chain and lobster-style clip as shown. No original box or papers.

Please review all photographs carefully for the detailed condition.
