Romersk antikk Bronse Slående og tung Jupiter Eagle
Stunning & Heavy Jupiter Eagle 1-3 AD
Ancient Roman bronze statuettes depicting an eagle perched on a deer or stag (or stag's head) date primarily to the 1st—3rd centuries AD. These artifacts were typically votive offerings connected to the cult of Jupiter Dolichenus, a popular Roman military mystery religion that originated in Anatolia (modern-day Turkey) and spread throughout the empire.
The eagle was the apex predator of the sky, and the deer was highly prized prey in Roman hunts (venatio). The motif symbolized dominance, victory, and the conquering of formidable opponents.
