Vintage hand-knotted Kars Erekeme wool rug, believed to date from approximately the 1950s. The rug has been kept in the family for many years and was preserved by my grandmother as an old family heirloom. According to a preliminary assessment by a rug specialist in Istanbul, it is a Kars Erekeme rug, approximately 70 years old, with colours believed to be produced using traditional natural root dyes. Dimensions: approximately 265 × 189 cm, excluding fringe. Weight: approximately 40 kg. Material: wool pile on a wool foundation. Country of origin: Turkey, Kars region. The design features three large geometric medallions on a deep burgundy-red field, surrounded by multiple traditional geometric borders in cream, brown, black, grey and muted blue tones. The rug is in good vintage condition for its age, with visible signs of use and storage. The fringes are uneven and show age-related wear. There is some wear to the side bindings and minor surface wear, but no major structural damage is visible. The rug has not been professionally cleaned. Professional specialist cleaning and inspection of the fringes are recommended. Please examine all photographs carefully, including the close-up photographs of the weave, fringes, edges and measurements. The rug is sold in its current condition.
